Both sides: same demo candidate. Right is a real export from our "Premium Editorial" template; left is what the same data looked like in a typical 2019 format.
The data is yours. We just:
- Remove the things that signal "this resume hasn't been updated in 5 years" (Objective sections, full street addresses, Times New Roman)
- Restructure your bullets from duties ("Responsible for…") into achievements where the original wording allows
- Drop your content into a clean ATS-tested layout — section headings parsers actually recognise, no tables inside columns inside tables
- Keep every fact you put in. We don't invent numbers, titles, or skills you didn't list.
What's in your old PDF is what shows up in the new one — just presented like it was written in 2026, not 2014.

Why your old resume is hurting you
Recruiters open ranked lists. Your resume's format affects how ATS parses it — and if the parser stumbles on two-column layouts or text inside tables, your score drops before any human sees you.
Visual design signals career stage. A senior candidate with a 2014-style resume looks like they stopped updating their skills around the same time. Even if it's not true, that's the read.
Most hiring managers spend 7 seconds on first scan. Your old format wastes those seconds on "Objective" sections and outdated phone formatting instead of your actual achievements.
What our parser handles
We've tested our import on real resumes across:
- US, UK, EU, India, Australia formats
- Single-column and multi-column layouts
- 1-page and multi-page documents
- Industry-standard CV formats with publications and academic sections
Most files import cleanly in under 15 seconds. What doesn't transfer perfectly — usually weird multi-column layouts or text inside images — you can fix in the editor in under a minute.
What we won't do:
- Add fake achievements or invented numbers
- Change job titles you didn't have
- Add skills you didn't list
- Rewrite your bullets in generic "AI voice"
This is import + reformat, not fabrication.
Want to know if your new resume actually ranks?
After you modernize, you can run a free ATS scan against any specific job description.
You'll see:
- Score 0–100 against that exact job
- What's covered, what's missing
- Top 3 fixes ordered by impact
- Honest verdict on whether to apply
First scan per resume is free. Optional, but worth it — modernizing format helps clarity, but a great format applied to the wrong job is still a no.
Frequently asked questions
Is this really free?
Yes — your first PDF import is covered by starter credits when you create a free Resumap account. After import, you can download the modernized resume as PDF without any watermark, subscription, or hidden charge.
What file formats can I upload?
PDF today. If your old resume is in Google Docs or Word, export it as PDF first — takes 3 seconds. DOCX and image-based files (PNG, JPG) coming soon.
Will all my data transfer correctly?
Most of it, most of the time. Resume PDFs have inconsistent structure — sometimes dates land in the wrong column, or a skills section gets parsed differently than expected. You'll see the result in our editor and can fix anything misplaced in under a minute.
Does this work for CVs (UK/EU format)?
Yes. Our parser handles both US resume and UK/EU CV structures, including multi-page documents with publications, languages, and academic sections.
Will my old resume's content be changed or rewritten?
We don't rewrite your bullets, add fake achievements, or invent skills. The structural improvements come from layout, typography, and reorganization — not from changing your words. You can edit anything manually in our editor if you want to rewrite bullets yourself.
What if my resume looks worse after import?
That can happen if your original PDF used non-standard layouts — heavy tables, multi-column designs, or text inside images. In that case the editor lets you fix sections manually, or start from scratch using one of our templates and copy your content over section by section.
How is this different from opening the PDF in Word?
Word imports your PDF as-is, often broken — lost formatting, misaligned text, broken bullets. Resumap re-extracts the semantic structure (this is your job title, this is a bullet, this is a date) and places it into a clean ATS-tested template. The output is editable from minute one.
Do I need to create an account to try this?
Yes, the import uses your signup credits. Account creation takes ~10 seconds with Google. No credit card.
