How to write a civil engineer resume
State the licence and where you are on the path
PE with the state, number and status if you hold it; EIT with the year and your PE exam date if you do not. Multiple state licences and reciprocity belong here too, because they decide which projects you can be assigned. This is the first question a hiring engineer has, and leaving it implicit reads as an answer they will not like.
Write projects by phase, value and your role
Concept, design development, permitting, bid, construction administration — say which ones you did and what you were responsible for. Add construction value or physical scale (acres, storeys, square footage, linear feet). 'Worked on a mixed-use development' could be a week of drafting or two years of ownership.
Name codes, standards and jurisdictions
IBC, ACI 318, AASHTO, the state DOT standard, the municipal drainage criteria manual. Civil work is jurisdiction-bound, and a candidate who has been through review in the same city or state arrives with an advantage that is worth stating explicitly.
Name the software at product level
Civil 3D, Revit, HEC-RAS, StormCAD, SWMM, RISA, ETABS, Bluebeam, ArcGIS — and what you actually modelled or produced in them. Firms filter on the specific product because the licences and the training cost real money.
Show what happened after the drawings left
Approvals obtained, review comments resolved, RFIs handled, changes made in the field, no-rise certifications accepted. Design that survived review and construction is much stronger evidence than design volume — and it is what distinguishes a project engineer from a drafter with a degree.

Not stating licence status at all
PE with state and status, or EIT with the exam date. It determines what you can be assigned; ambiguity reads as avoidance.
Project lists with no phase or role
'Worked on' hides everything. Say whether you designed, permitted, sealed, or administered construction.
No scale on the projects
Construction value, acreage, storeys, square footage, length. Without them a reviewer cannot calibrate your experience.
'Engineering software' with nothing named
Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, RISA. Named tools are hard filters in engineering hiring.
Claiming to have sealed work you did not seal
Sealing carries legal responsibility and is verifiable. Say 'produced under the seal of the engineer of record' where that is what happened.
Omitting the jurisdictions you have worked in
Local criteria and review culture vary enormously. Naming cities, counties or state DOTs you have been through review with is a real advantage.
A three-page resume for six years of work
One page early, two after roughly a decade. Group the smaller projects and keep the ones with phase, scale and outcome.

How do I write a resume as a new graduate with only internships?

Is a two-page civil resume acceptable?
After roughly a decade, yes — project lists, licences and codes need room. Before that, one page. If you go to two, make sure the first page carries the licence, the discipline and two projects with outcomes.
Should I include a project list as a separate section?
It works well for consulting and public-agency roles, provided each entry has phase, scale and your role. A bare list of project names is filler; an annotated one is often the strongest part of an experienced civil resume.
